Cheryl Reeve made the decision to look over Caitlin Clark a long time ago, according to her social media activity, as the Indiana Fever’s star will not be going to the 2024 Olympic Games with Team USA.

It left fans shocked and outraged, whilst her family were clearly not fans of the decision either, but the overall first pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft will be left at home after it was announced that she didn’t make the 12-player cut although Clark herself isn’t actually disappointed.

So, after some digging from the USA Today’s Christine Brennan, she seems to have stumbled on a tweet from May 3 that suggests the ex-Iowa Hawkeye’s star was never going to go as a post from Reeve read, “The W [win] is more than one player.”

The post was a quote tweet of a WNBA post to launch the season off with the Fever against the Dallas Wings as she called for people to tune in to her own side’s game of the Minnesota Lynx vs the Chicago Sky.

Why will Clark not go?
With strong playmaking skills, effective shooting and a deadly tendency from three-point range, Clark would have been a good addition to Team USA as they look for an eighth consecutive gold medal in women’s basketball.

So many expected the NCAA record points holder to be on the plane across the Atlantic on July 28 but it turned out that will not be the case so why is she not going to the Olympics?

The reason appears to be that Reeve has not worked with Clark before and doesn’t seem to trust her, adding she didn’t know how she would perform in the “trenches” if the USA found themselves under pressure in a tough game.

Clark has already reacted but she doesn’t seem to be too fazed by it and instead will look to use it as extra motivation going forwards.

“I think it’s just a little more motivation. You remember that. Hopefully when four years comes back around, I can be there.”
